About Dana
"and let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit"
The day we spent together as friends was beautiful, bright and sunny, skies a deep blue. The day felt shiny, divine. Bob and I arrived early at the Worthington Inn, waiting for Dana to join us for lunch. It was late summer, just before Labor Day, on an early Friday afternoon.
Dana walked into the room smiling, so happy to see us. She lit up the room with her smiles and radiant presence. The goodness of her soul surrounded Bob and me. The mood was light and airy, and we talked, sometimes sat quietly, and we enjoyed lunch and each other, as only close friends can do.
"for without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with Joy that is unacclaimed"
Afterwards, we had coffee at Scottie MacBean, laughing and talking, enjoying the presence of each other, and feeling the love and the moment as a blessing. After coffee we went next door to Graeter's for ice cream.
"and in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed."
We talked about their upcoming marriage, and returned later to the Worthington Inn to look over their facilities, to see if they might meet Dana and Bob's hopes and expectations for a reception to celebrate the marriage with family and friends.
I was part of their love for each other that day and of their excitement in knowing they were born of each other, to love each other through infinity.
If life were lived in moments, then the moments I cherish most I shared with Bob and Dana on a beautiful, clear, sunny day in late summer on a lazy Friday afternoon.
We said good-bye, and Dana and Bob wished me a happy birthday, but then they already had, by giving to me a perfect day of friendship.
We said good-bye, but friends are never truly apart.
"For that which you love most in your friend may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain"
You continue, Dana, in the spirit of those who love you.
I love Dana and Bob. They are always with me.
The quotes are from Gibran's, The Prophet.
