About Dana

In reflecting on the very short time that I knew Dana, the thing that amazes me is there is something etched into my memory about the 5 occasions that I actually saw her in person.

April 2002: Lobby of the Royal Palm in Arizona

She was so easy to talk to as Bob checked them into the hotel. I felt like I had known her for several years. From what she told Bob later in discussing our conversation, I feel like she must have felt the same way.

November 2002: Morton’s Restaurant in Columbus

I know now that she was not feeling well. Several of us (including Jill) were having a drink and Bob asked her to stop by to say hello. She came by to be with us for a little while. I know now that she probably did not feel like being there, but you would have never known it that evening.

January 2003: Capital Conference in Las Vegas, Bellagio Hotel

I know she was really tired during this trip. When we returned to the hotel from dinner or a show one night, we were all walking down the walkway of the casino in the Bellagio returning to our rooms. It was very crowded and it was late at night. I remember watching Dana walk down that walkway; standing straight up – with her head held high, and I remember thinking that she was a queen walking proudly in that crowd - next to Bob.

February 2003: Clark Schaefer Meeting in Scottsdale

Bob shared with me that Dana was looking forward to meeting my dog, Charlie, who had been sick. Dana had made the comment to Bob that a dog should not have to go through having cancer. I remember at my house, with a lot of other people around, I took Charlie over to Dana to personally introduce them. I had never seen Charlie act so shyly in front of anyone. It was as if Charlie knew she was meeting someone very special.

Late April 2003: At Bob & Dana’s Home Prior to the Insurance Forum

Jill and I went over to Bob’ for dinner. I remember that when we arrived at the house, Dana was in the yard sitting in “her” place. I will never forget how peaceful it was around her there in the yard.
